Country Stars Head for the Super Bowl

Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Dierks Bentley will perform at the Night Before concert – on the eve of Super Bowl 49 in Phoenix.  The show will be part of the festivities leading up to the big game.  Zac Brown, The Cadillac Three, Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt will perform at the Super Fan Festival January 28th through the 30th in Glendale, Arizona – just across from the site of the game.

Luke Bryan has Top Grossing Tour of 2014

It’s official!  Luke Bryan had the top-grossing country tour of 2014.  His That’s My Kind of Night tour pulled in just under $62 million over 72 dates, putting it 14th on Billboard’s all-genre list of the year’s Top 25 tours. (insert audio)  Luke bested pop legend Elton John and came in right behind Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.  George Strait’s Cowboy Rides Away tour placed 16th with $58 million, while Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down tour was 19th with $53 million.

Thomas Rhett Takes Billboard's Top Song Honors

Billboard has come out with their year-end list of the best country songs of 2014, and Thomas Rhett landed at number one for his track “Makes Me Wanna.” While the mag acknowledges that the song is your typical bro country tune, featuring trucks, tailgates and women,  they add that that what makes it special is it’s, “'70s R&B-influenced production that melds with Rhett's southern twang.

If you want to see Carrie Underwood... this is the week to do it. Carrie will be all over the small screen this week to plug her new Greatest Hits: Decade One album, which hits stores tomorrow.  She’ll make an appearance tonight on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.  She’ll ring in release day tomorrow on the Today show.  Carrie will stop by CBS’s The Talk on Wednesday and she’ll wrap the week Friday on the Rachael Ray Show.

Kenny Chesney Weighs In On Women in Country Songs

Kenny Chesney has a lot to say about the objectification of women in country music.  In a recent Billboard magazine interview, Kenny admits that over the last several years, it seems like every time somebody sings about a woman, she’s in cutoff jeans drinking and on a tailgate.  He even says he may have written a song like that twenty years ago.  But now, he’s at a point where he has something different to say about women. One lady Kenny remains a huge fan of is his “You and Tequila” duet partner Grace Potter. Grace is featured on Kenny’s The Big Revival album in a song called “Wild Child”.  You can pick it up in stores now.

Jason Aldean Pulls Some Music From Spotify

Looks like Jason Aldean is expected to pull a Taylor Swift on Spotify. According to the Tennessean Jason’s current album Old Boots, New Dirt will be removed from the streaming service but all his previous albums will remain.

An executive from Jason’s label Broken Bow Music Group would not comment on the decision to pull Old Boots, New Dirt from Spotify. But he did have something to say about the conundrum facing record companies today, stating, “There is a premium for 'brand new' — movies, cars, clothes, everything else … Why we devalue music, I don't know. I understand five years down the road — potentially — there will be enough streaming revenue to balance it out. In the meantime, how much revenue are we giving away?"

Old Boots, New Dirt had the year’s best-ever debut week for a country album on Spotify with more than 3.04 million streams. The per-stream payout for a song streamed on Spotify is between six-thousandths ($0.0006) of a cent and eight-thousandths of a cent ($0.00084).

Luke Bryan: Thoughts on Winning Entertainer of the Year

Luke Bryan picked up his very first CMA award last week for Entertainer of the Year and he credits his success as knowing…and adjusting for…what his audience wants.   Luke is enjoying some well-deserved time off the road.  He’ll pick things back up again in January when he takes his show to the beach for a four-day concert in Mexico.

CMA's Win TV Ratings for ABC

The 48^th Annual CMA Awards powered ABC to a ratings win on Wednesday night, attracting 16.14 million viewers.  Though viewership was down slightly from last year, it still ranked number one in all key Adult demos.  The CMA Awards also delivered ABC’s strongest performance among entertainment programming in eight months and was the day’s “most social” broadcast with just over a million tweets.

Fresh off his CMA Male Vocalist of the Year win, Blake Shelton now leads the country nominees for the People’s Choice Awards.  He’s up for the all-genre Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Male Country Artist.  Online voting is underway.  Head to the MCM page to cast your vote for all of your favorites.  The People’s Choice Awards will air live from Los Angeles on January 7^th.

Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival Tour and Jason Aldean’s Burn It Down Tour will combine for 10 stadium shows next summer, kicking off May 2^nd in San Francisco at Levi’s Stadium and wrapping up August 28^th at Gillette Stadium near Boston.  Those two dates will be the first to go on sale.  Here are the other locations announced:

The Bull's Music City Minute for October 23rd

Florida Georgia Line are the cover story of the new People Country.  Inside, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard chat about the perks of being a duo and give an exclusive tour of their dream homes.  With their latest album, Anything Goes being the nation’s top-selling album this week, both Brian and Tyler agree – success is sweeter when it’s shared.

Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley and rock legend Steven Tyler have joined the line-up of CMA Country Christmas.  Also performing are Brett Eldredge, Hunter Hayes and Carrie Underwood (just to name a few).  The show, hosted by Jennifer Nettles, airs December 1^st on ABC.

Jason Aldean has always wanted to work with Bob Seger, and now he’s getting his chance.  The two will team up for an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads.  The show, which will be taped this month, will premiere on November 28^th.

CMA Update on Performances

Country will collide with the pop world in a big way at next month’s CMA Awards.  Little Big Town and Ariana Grande will perform together, and Miranda Lambert and Meghan Trainor will duet on Meghan’s monster hit, “All About That Bass”.  The 48^th Annual CMA Awards will air live November 5^th on ABC.

Which Legend Would You Go See

Earlier today, we posted a question on our Facebook page... which legendary G would you rather see if you could only pick one for their final show. Would it be the King, George Strait or Garth Brooks. Interestingly, the early response has been overwhelmingly in favor of George Strait. Of course the latest hoopla is around Garth Brooks doing several shows in various cities, but a lot of that hype is likely a result of Garth being away for 18 years. It would be interesting to see if George truly stays retired and comes back to an encore tour in say five or more years from now. Click here to join in on the conversation.
